RICHARD C. DAY

Chairman and CEO

Mr. Day has been in the hospitality and club industries his entire 30 year career. Prior to founding the Hospitality Resource Group International, Mr. Day was Vice President of a club consulting and management company and was General Manager and Chief Operating Officer for several country clubs in the mid-Atlantic area. He also held management positions with Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl., the Sonesta Hotel Corporation and the Doral Resort & Country Club. He has been a featured speaker at numerous seminars and has conducted many training, and transformational leadership seminars (the art of managing change). He also teaches businesses and organizations the true value of delivering exceptional service, internally and externally.

 

 

RICHARD FLANDREAU

President - Private Club Division

Mr. Flandreau is an accomplished hospitality industry professional, experienced in private country clubs, yacht clubs, hotels, fine dining and other restaurant environments. He has a record of excellence in devising and implementing productivity and cost improvements that contribute to positive financial results while improving member/guest services. Richard is a 20 year veteran of the hospitality industry and is a well respected executive in the field. He specializes in turnaround of under-performing operations, implementing purchasing and inventory control systems that lower operating costs, establishment of policies that recruit, develop and retain employees, and reducing labor costs through structured training programs and efficient staff deployment. He has extensive experience in food service environments in both the front and back of the house.

 

 

RICHARD FURIONI

Senior Vice-President - Operations

North Carolina Office

Richard Furioni has extensive experience in all facets of hospitality management. He has owned three successful restaurants, operated and administered club and recreation systems for the military, as well as supervising food and beverage operations for Ramada Inns, including a large nightclub. He has also successfully directed operations of private country clubs as General Manager. His specialty includes increasing the financial posture of club operations, developing cost controls, analyzing the cost-effectiveness of programs, instituting successful staff training programs and revitalizing food operations. Mr. Furioni's expertise also includes clubhouse and kitchen renovation, new design construction and golf course renovation, design and construction.

 

 

LARRY PAKKALA

HRGI - Director of Agronomy

Larry Pakkala, Director of Agronomy for The Hospitality Resource Group International, Inc., has 35 years experience in successfully managing 5 historic championship golf and country club facilties. A graduate of the Penn State Turfgrass Management Program, Mr. Pakkala has served as President of the MET GCSA and Founding President of the Tri-State Turf Research Foundation. Mr. Pakkala was awarded the coveted Sherwood A. Moore Lifetime Achievement Award by the Met GCSA. A Certified Golf Course Superintendent, Mr. Pakkala has just recently received retirement status in all professional associations and assumed a consulting position with The Hospitality Resource Group International, Inc., and plans to continue working in the Golf and Club Management industry helping Members and Club Owners with problem solving in all professional turf management and operational issues relating to the greens department.

 

 

SEENA HAMILTON

Principal

Ms. Hamilton has been called by some a "marketing genius". At the age of 22, she was Publicity Director of MGM records. She then became editor and publisher of the "Hotel Gazette", which led to extensive work in the hotel and tourism industry, where she is considered a leading authority. She has been featured speaker on the hotel lecture circuit and has consulted for several leading hotel organizations including Hilton, Sheraton and Los Monteros. She has also provided consulting services and generated outstanding publicity for numerous national and international companies, such as Coca Cola, Ford Motor Company, Omega Watch Company, Reebok International, and the House of Seagrams, just to name a few. Ms. Hamilton has represented clients at many of the world's premiere events: the Olympic Games, The Super Bowl, The Goodwill Games, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open just to name a few. Her influence in the marketplace has been so strong, that Ms. Hamilton has received dozens of citations (from the White House, Foreign Governments, and Cable TV, among others) and awards from USA Today and New York Woman Magazine. She specializes in developing marketing, promotional, and publicity initiatives for organizations of all types, as well as Resort and Hotel operations analysis.

 

 

ROB PENLAND

Principal

Mr. Penland is a second-generation hospitality professional and brings to our clients a unique insight into the resort and country club business. He was the successful owner/operator of one of South Carolina’s finest leisure club and resort properties. Mr. Penland has firsthand experience in club and resort operations. His background includes grounds and golf course maintenance, food and beverage, accounting, and hotel management. He specializes in strategic planning, member/guest surveys, operations, and staffing issues.

 

 

HEINZ U HOFMANN

President - Hotel/Resort & Restaurant Divisions

Heinz Hofmann’s career spans over 49 years and several countries. Born and raised in Zürich, Switzerland his roots started in the kitchen as a chef. After a brief education in the military he enrolled in the famed Swiss Hotel Management School in Lausanne and graduated in 1964. To see and taste the world he enlisted on a cruise ship where he spent two years as Maitre D’ traveling the seas on a Norwegian registry vessel. 

His career took him to the Bahamas where he became Managing Director of a 1000 room plus resort and marina. The Canadian owners of the resort repatriated him to Canada where he held several managerial positions. He joined Westin Hotels in Vancouver, British Columbia as Director of Food and Beverage and was later transferred to the United States, first to Chicago and then to San Francisco’s well known St. Francis Hotel in the capacity of food and beverage director. While serving these various Westin Hotels he was involved in the remodel of at least one food and beverage outlet in each hotel and spent three month in the Philippines assisting with the opening of the Philippine Plaza Hotel in Manila. A brief stay in Seattle followed to oversee and conceptualize the addition of the catering facility to the Space Needle as well as a retail market place at the foot of this landmark tower. 

Fairmont Hotels attracted Heinz back to San Francisco as national director of food and beverage. During his tenure his was part of the design team for their two new hotels in Chicago and San Jose, California while overseeing the operations of all properties. He was part of the opening management team at The Grand Champions Hotel in Indian Wells as resident manager and subsequently became a consultant serving many customers in the Southern California area as well as national and international customers. He owned and operated several coffee/espresso bars in the Beverly Hills and Santa Monica area of Los Angeles. 

His activities as a consultant exposed him to the country club and golf business. He served on a contractual basis for the Sunrise Company as food and beverage director and later was appointed general manager of Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert. Until recently he was director of country club operations for DMB Associates , the Scottsdale developer of DC Ranch and other communities in the western United States and Hawaii. He also served as general manager of The Country Club at DC Ranch since its construction in 1998. In his duties to the developer he was instrumental in the conceptualizing and design phases of all golf course and club house design and construction as well as composing and training the management team for the operation after opening of the club. These communities include Lahontan in Lake Tahoe, Glenwild in Park City, Santaluz in San Diego and most recently Silverleaf in Scottsdale. 

Heinz just completed the 25.7 Million Dollar construction project of a new Driving Range, Club House, Golf Course Maintenance Building and Cart Barn for the La Quinta Country Club in the capacity of COO/Project Manager. The project was delivered on time and under budget and was highly acclaimed by the membership of this private Country Club. He was in charge of all planning, design, consultant selection and construction execution reporting to the board of the club. He successfully brought the project from entitlement through all city approval  levels up to and including final certification last month. Heinz continues to be an independent consultant to the La Quinta Country Club’s board of directors.  

Heinz is a member of +30 years in the Confrèrie de la Chaine des Rôtisseurs, the world’s oldest, by invitation only, gastronomic society and holds the rank of Bailli Provincial, (Regional President) and Officier Commandeur. He is a member of the National Board of Directors as well as a member of the International Ruling Council in France.  Heinz is also a member of Les Amis d’Escoffier, a private membership association of Chefs, Restaurant Owners and Hoteliers, both active and retired. He holds the rank of Commandeur for his +15 years of service in the organization.
